A FATHER who strangled his partner with a pyjama cord while she was driving has been jailed for two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jordan Crewe, 27, of Royal Exchange, pleaded guilty to four charges of harassment, coercive behaviour, intentional strangulation and ABH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was sentenced to two years in prison, half of which must be served before he can be released on licence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cardiff Crown Court heard that the victim, who has a child with Crewe, had described herself as \u201ca shell of a person\u201d after his abuse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim and Crewe had been in an on\/off relationship, which turned progressively more abusive as it came to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The judge, Recorder Robin Rouch, told the court that during one incident Crewe slashed the victim\u2019s car tyres, shouted through her letterbox and kicked her front door before trying to get in through the back of her house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cYou threatened to hurt her if she started a new relationship. You threatened violence, you belittled her, you tracked her without her knowledge, and you threatened to self-harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court was told about the impact Crewe\u2019s crimes had on the victim, who has been left with PTSD and flashbacks because of the abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jenny Yeo, prosecuting, said: \u201cHe would tell her that her children were better off without her, and that her family couldn\u2019t be trusted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe installed a tracking device on her phone and would often grab her breasts and bum in public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe would threaten suicide, sending the victim videos of himself with a dog lead tied around his neck. This was abuse, control, and manipulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe sought to maximise fear and distress, and to cause psychological harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Yeo also told the court how Crewe had strangled the victim while she was driving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said: \u201cHe pulled her hair from behind, before pulling the cord of her pyjama top and strangling her. He then refused to get out of the car and tried to damage the passenger side door.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vaughan Britton, defending, said in mitigation that Crewe had previously been homeless, and that he had struggled with cannabis and cocaine misuse over the years, as well as with his ADHD diagnosis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Crewe has previous convictions and spent time in prison for possession of a knife in a public place, criminal damage, and sending offensive messages.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When passing the sentence, Judge Rouch said: \u201cAfter you were released, you treated the victim respectfully. She even wrote you a reference for a hostel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYour attitude towards her altered. You threatened her, bit her, and left her scarred. Your actions could\u2019ve had very serious consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As well as a prison sentence, the judge also authorised a 12-year restraining order, prohibiting Crewe from contacting the victim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
