It wants\u00a0to rival the Edinburgh International Festival, Manchester International Festival, the Holland Festival and Festival d\u2019Avignon.<br \/>\nFestival of Voice will have\u00a0opportunities for all ages and styles of music with differing levels of experience. It will feature over 12,000 participants across 78 performances over the 10 days.<br \/>\nEvent director Graeme Farrow said:\u00a0\u201cWales takes pride in singing above all. We wanted to take this tradition as far forward as we could, scattering the sheer joy of it across the horizons of Cardiff and inviting the world to come and sing with us and to share emotion through the purest form of human and artistic expression.<br \/>\n&#8220;We are focused on trying to provide experiences that people will travel to Cardiff from afar to see &#8211; such as <strong>Rufus Wainwright\u2019s<\/strong> only UK date this year so far, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to see <strong>Juliette Gr\u00e9co<\/strong>.&#8221;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9401\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9401\" style=\"width: 475px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/rufus.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9401\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9401\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/rufus.jpg\" alt=\"Rufus Wainwright's only UK tour date is at the festival\" width=\"475\" height=\"282\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9401\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/rufus.jpg\" alt=\"Rufus Wainwright's only UK tour date is at the festival\" width=\"475\" height=\"282\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> <strong>Rufus Wainwright&#8217;s only UK tour date is at the Cardiff festival<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nFrom international stars to home-grown talent, the festival offers the full range. Welsh choirs and solo artists will take the stage alongside stars from overseas to boost the profile of Welsh music.<br \/>\nMr Farrow was also keen to highlight the range and quality of Welsh talent. &#8220;We want to ensure that the festival celebrates the breadth of Wales\u2019 rich musical landscape&#8221;, he said.<br \/>\nAs well as singers, the event will include many theatre and arts works. Some of the projects commissioned are The Last Mermaid, La Voix Humaine, Before I Leave, Opera for the Unknown Woman, Ffatri Vox, Choir Clock and Lawrence Abu Hamdan.<br \/>\nDavid Alston, arts director of the Arts Council of Wales, said\u00a0this festival is\u00a0just the type of large-scale event missing from a country characterised as the land of song.<br \/>\n&#8220;We know this is going to be a festival with so many expressive and arresting dimensions to it, animating different parts of the city and involving people in an amazing celebration,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThe festival will spread the event across Wales&#8217;s capital. Venues which\u00a0will hold events include Wales Millennium Centre, Chapter, St David\u2019s Hall, New Theatre, Tramshed, Sherman Cymru and smaller city venues. A pop-up club at Wales Millennium Centre will launch at the festival.<br \/>\nThe festival looks to\u00a0celebrate Wales&#8217;s heritage as &#8216;the land of song&#8217; and its profound tradition of choral singing and stream of world famous vocal artists.<br \/>\nThe programme aims to create a new kind of festival using all\u00a0forms of vocal expression: opera alongside grime, musical theatre alongside rock, cabaret alongside gospel and swing alongside a cappella choral music.<br \/>\nVelvet Underground&#8217;s\u00a0John Cale, with ensemble and chorus, will open the festival on June 3, supported by last year\u2019s Welsh Music Prize winner, Gwenno.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9398\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9398\" style=\"width: 227px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/bryn-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9398\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9398\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/bryn-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bryn Terfel will be performing three times at the festival\" width=\"227\" height=\"264\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9398\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9398\" src=\"http:\/\/cardiffian.jomec.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/bryn-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bryn Terfel will be performing three times at the festival\" width=\"227\" height=\"264\" \/><\/noscript><\/a> <strong>Bryn Terfel will be performing three times at the festival<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nHighlighting this music genre mash-up is <strong>Van Morrison<\/strong>,\u00a0who will be joined by Welsh opera singer\u00a0Bryn Terfel\u00a0on June 7.\u00a0Bryn himself will be performing at two concerts at Llandaff Cathedral.<br \/>\nFestival of Voice is in collaboration with Serious, Welsh National Opera, National Theatre Wales, Artes Mundi and other venues and organisations across Cardiff.
