{"id":95109,"date":"2025-03-11T16:18:43","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T16:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/?p=95109"},"modified":"2025-05-12T15:15:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T14:15:11","slug":"cycling-charity-pedal-power-launches-uk-relay-event-to-champion-accessible-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/2025\/03\/11\/cycling-charity-pedal-power-launches-uk-relay-event-to-champion-accessible-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"Cycling charity Pedal Power launches UK relay event to champion accessible sport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Cardiff charity unveiled a purpose-built baton which be fitted to any adapted sports equipment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A CARDIFF charity which specialises in accessible cycling hosted the launch of a UK-wide relay race for inclusive sports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch event for Relay Your Way, a 2,500km multi-sport route from Glasgow to Windsor, was hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiffpedalpower.org\">Pedal Power<\/a> at the charity&#8217;s Bute Park base on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event included the unveiling of a purpose-built baton, which is designed to be able to fit multiple types of accessible sports equipment for the relay, which passes through Cardiff on Monday, June 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relay Your Way is organised by Carmarthen-based <a href=\"https:\/\/cerebra.org.uk\">Cerebra<\/a>, a charity which helps children with neurological conditions to get involved in sports. Cerebra creates specially-adapted equipment for multiple sports, which mirrors what Pedal Power does with bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are really excited to be a part of it all,&#8221; said Gabe Taylor, Pedal Power&#8217;s Engagement Officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Cerebra as a charity aligns really well with our goals, and it makes more potential users of Pedal Power aware of us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt gives people the opportunity to come and try our bikes, which is really exciting.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=10zVhcy_CtG8X1eCAWqDMcpM1LqfBQy0&amp;ehbc=2E312F\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=10zVhcy_CtG8X1eCAWqDMcpM1LqfBQy0&amp;ehbc=2E312F\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n\n\n\n<p>The relay run over 33 days and includes stages ranging from a 200-metre walk to an 80-kilometre cycling challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it travels through the UK it will offer people the chance to try out different accessible sports, with specialist equipment for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Cardiff, there will be white water rafting with an adaptive raft at Cardiff International White Water, while Pedal Power will also be involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/cardiffjournalism.co.uk\/thecardiffian\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/03\/IMG_3524_optimized_1000-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Two trikes, each with two people riding them, in front of Cereba's stall. So, we put clips or footplates on if they need it, or belts and harnesses. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have something like 230 cycles, so we have a lot of different options for everyone. Some of them are very specific and others are more accessible for everybody.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the adaptions is a bike with space for a wheelchair on front.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure their hair, they all come back with great cheesy smiles,&#8221; said Craig Morris, bike hire operative at Pedal Power.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt creates a great sense of community,\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose-built baton, which was unveiled at the event, was created by Cerebra\u2019s innovation team, which makes bespoke products to help children with neurological conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The baton can be adapted to be carried by wheelchair users, adapted surfers and frame runners, as well as being fitted with a GPS tracker to allow supporters to track
