A MAN with a string of convictions for violence pushed his partner down a flight of stairs despite knowing she might have been pregnant with his child, Cardiff Crown Court heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ieuan Evans went on to grab the woman’s hair and shout abuse at her, the court was told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Evans was at her house on December 14 last year when he became annoyed at\u00a0her for allegedly drinking when she might have been pregnant, said prosecutor Georgina Buckley.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The defendant, of Howard Drive, Caerphilly, then pushed her down a flight of stairs despite the suspected pregnancy, said Ms Buckley.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a separate incident in January 2025, the defendant smashed his girlfriend\u2019s TV, costing \u00a3200 of damage, said Ms Buckley.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And on January 20, 2025, Evans hurled abuse at his girlfriend, calling her a \u201c****ing scumbag\u201d, and threatened to \u201csmash her face in,\u201d said Ms Buckley.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later that day, Evans gripped both sides of his girlfriend\u2019s hair and screamed in her face, at which point she called the police and Evans was arrested, said Ms Buckley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a police interview, Evans said the allegations against him were a \u201cbunch of lies”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Edward Mitchard, defending, said: \u201cThe defendant has had issues with alcohol, and was in a toxic relationship. He has no intention of rekindling that relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile in custody, the defendant passed a site safety certificate so he can start work in the building industry when he is released.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Evans has 16 previous convictions arising from 29 offences. The most relevant was in 2019 when he punched a former partner, causing cuts to her head.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Evans pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault and one charge of criminal damage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sentencing him on March 26, Recorder Andrew Hammond told Evans: \u201cYou have an appalling record of violence and history of domestic abuse. You pose a menace to those who encounter you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou have reached a stage whereby any prospect of rehab is not there. The protection of the public from you is at the forefront of the court\u2019s mind.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recorder Hammond jailed Evans for six months. Evans will serve 40% in custody, followed by a 12-month post-sentence supervision.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Evans\u00a0was also made subject to a five-year restraining order.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
