Cardiff Council’s plan to turn a section of Pendryis Street in Grangetown gets a mixed response in the public consultation. One petitioner says it would not solve the problem.
Pendryis Street is one of Grangetown’s busiest roads and it will be partially turned one way with a new cycle path. A section of Pendryis Street from Clare Road to Mardy Street will be converted to a one-way eastbound system.
The planned development by Cardiff Council will also stop right turns from north bound Clare Road.
The plan has received a mixed response from the public in the consultation put out by the Council. This was done through a drop of 1,724 letters and a site notice but only 49 responses were received. The results showed support from 41% respondents and disapproval from 49% with 9% holding no view.
Dinesh Hirani, Grangetown resident and petitioner says, “Converting it one way causes more problems than needed. Heavy traffic will make it difficult for commuters like children and old people at the junction.”
Cardiff Council says, “The scheme will be monitored before and after implementation to determine whether any further improvements are required as part of the scheme.”
