Project of building sewage pumping station in Hailey Park still ongoing

Welsh Water has begun building a sewage pumping station in Hailey Park in Llandaff North. But local residents are campaigning to stop the project over environmental concerns.

Residents have opposed the plan since it was announced. They think the station impacts on the environment and reduces children’s playing space.

Welsh Water says the station will deal with sewage from new housing developments in the area, including Plasdwr which has 7,000 new homes.

Work on the pumping station began in September and will take approximately two years to complete.

Locals established an organization named Save Hailey Park to fight for the park. The organisation lost the first court case, but they still fundraised for legal fees to fight another case.

Delyth lives in Llandaff North. She says the station affects everyone’s daily life.

“We really worry about our environment and want to keep everything safe.”
