Sir Tasker Watkins is considered to be one of the most accomplished men in the history of Wales.
Journalism student Jessica Chen spoke to us about Watkins’ life and his statue in front of the Principality Stadium.
The statue was unveiled outside the Westgate Street entrance of the Principality Stadium on September 15, 2009. It was designed by internationally acclaimed artist Roger Andrews and is a fitting way of honoring one of the most remarkable men in the country’s rich history.
Watkins was President of the Welsh Rugby Union from 1993 until 2004, and was awarded the freedom of the city of Cardiff in 2006. He also fought in the World War II for the British Army and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his service.
