Award winners gather on stage

From the Valleys to the Senedd – first awards held in Wales which celebrates black music

An awards ceremony which celebrated talent across the Welsh black music scene has been held for the first time.

Organisers Valley Events said the aim of the awards was to recognise the “massive potential” in Wales.

Lewis Jones told CJS News: “We understood there’s massive potential in Wales and it’s slept on, we went on a whole mission to just bring it to the forefront.”

The event showcased Welsh rap music and culture, as local artists continue to get recognised on the national and international stage.

Jordi Jords, winner of the energy category for best live performance, said he is optimistic for the future of the MOBO scene in Wales.

“I think there’s a lot of coverage here because Cardiff itself is a growing city and because of the awards and in the future, there will be more events”

Samantha, an artist “It’s great to have these events to celebrate all the achievements and their hard work and I’m glad that people are getting their deserved recognition”

Event Organiser Owen Williams said “We used to be performing in small venues so to go from the Valleys to the Senedd, it’s amazing and to be in the home of the Welsh Government”
