Splott’s business owners say they are experiencing trade disruptions due to problems with young people.
Since there aren’t many places for youth in Splott to engage in extracurricular activities, young people congregate in the alleyways where there are stores and enterprises.
In addition, the absence of supervision over them has led to an increase in the number of crimes.
This year, Splott’s Sanquhar Street has been in the spotlight due to thefts and crimes. Shop owners say young people frequently hang around the streets and are heavily participating in these situations.
Daniel Odesko is the owner of The Cottage pub on Sanquhar Road. It’s one of Splott’s last remaining independent pubs, Mr Odesko, says youth disturbances have been his biggest challenge in trying to maintain the success of his enterprise.
He has spent more than thirty years living in Splott and said that this year has seen a rise in the number of youth-related crime-related occurrences.
The youth community centre in Splott is working with more than a hundred young people now.
Workers at the community centre have been facing difficulties in managing all the young people due to the increase in their number and the need for more financial support.
They want Cardiff Council to provide more support for the young people in Splott.
