Flat development causing 'concern' in Cyncoed

Proposals to redevelop a bungalow into ten, two bedroom flats opposite Cardiff High School is being opposed by residents and councillors.
The plans for the ten, 1110 square feet flats have just been resubmitted to Cardiff City Council, after the previous application was withdrawn. There were over 30 comments lodged against the first application.
They developers of the site, Case Morgan Developers Ltd say the flats are aimed at retired people in the area who may want to downsize and say there is a huge demand for these type of flats in the city.
But at a public meeting held in October, residents raised issues such as: flooding risk, parking, increased traffic and worries over future landlords taking advantage of the flats being inside the Cardiff High School catchment area.
Residents say they are concerned about possible flooding at the site and local area because there is a spring and a brook running through the garden which has flooded in the past.
But a flood risk expert Richard Allen, who was at the meeting on behalf of the developers, said the plans have taken this into account and it should not be an issue.
The Liberal Democrat councillor for Cyncoed, Bablin Molik who organised the public meeting says,
“It’s an overdevelopment of the plot of land and it’s not in keeping with the dynamics of the area and the character of the area. It is a big concern and based on the residents views I’m going to be opposing the proposal as we strongly feel it’s an overdevelopment of the site.”
A site visit by planning officers is likely in the new year before a final decision is made.
