Cardiff vs Luton – Player ratings as the Bluebirds drop points to relegation rivals

Last nights loss leaves Cardiff just one point above the drop zone, with Derby also achieving a 2-0 win over in-form Coventry. As they look ahead, tough games against Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday will make relegation look a very real possibility for the Welsh side.

The player ratings for Cardiff are as follows.

Ethan Horvath – 5 – The keeper only faced 4 shots on target in this game, conceding 2. However, for Luton’s second, he was left in a tough position by his teammate, there was not much he could do.

Perry Ng – 5 – Ng was solid when he was required to defend, but playing with 3 defenders behind him, the attacking pay off was not there.

Dimitrious Goutas – 3 – Going into the second half, Goutas had had a solid game, but two errors leading to goals meant that he was at the heart of his teams loss.

Will Fish – 7 – Very little was asked of Fish today. He dealt with the ball well when he needed to and was rarely gotten the best of.

Callum O’Dawda – 4 – He had a quiet game on the whole, with Luton often opting to attack down the middle. But, when run at, he was vulnerable and allowed Luton to attack and picked up a yellow card in the process.

Callum Chambers – 7 – It likely says more about Cardiff than it does Chambers that he was their most threatening player today. He was defensively sound when dropping into the back three but also gave Cardiff the lead with a striker like finish. He also had the chance of the night when he caught the ball perfectly and struck the bar from 25-yards out.

Aaron Ramsey – 6 – In his fifty minutes on the pitch, Ramsey kept the ball well and progressed the ball forward well. However, he was taken off with an injury leaving fans hoping the injury he picked up isn’t serious.

Rubin Colwill – 6 – A mixed review for the young Welshman tonight. Played wider than he’s used to and held the ball up well.

Alex Robertson – 6 – A lovely set piece to set-up the opener and was trying to create.

Will Alves – 7 – A positive display for Alves on his return to the starting eleven. He was causing Amari’i Bell problems in his 70-minute stint.

Yousef Salech – 4 – Not the confident young man we’ve seen in the past few games for him. One real opportunity was all he had, not really getting himself on the ball all game.

Cardiff substitutions didn’t work as the manager would’ve liked them too, with Mannsverk being the sole highlight. The Norwegian came on for the injured Ramsey and was able to create chances for city.
