Cardiff University is taking public opinions into account for its new post-graduate Research Centre at the former rail sidings in Maindy Road
Part of the University’s multi-million pound Campus Horizon project, the “Haydn Ellis Buidling” will also feature a railway bridge connecting Maindy Road with Colum Road, which will benefit the local community as well as staff and students of the University.
The development has been in consultation with the local planning authority and public meetings were held regularly, says the University newsletter.
With construction underway since May, public opinion about it seems mostly positive, as the disused lot had been an eyesore, and the new building will “tidy up the street”. Although there is some concern about Maindy Road becoming “too student-y, if that’s even possible”, many also believe it will bring more security to the area, and more business to local shops, pubs and cafés.
