Movement evicted from old Inland Revenue building on Westgate Street
The Welsh Rugby Union evicted Occupy Cardiff members squatting in the old Inland Revenue building on Westgate Street last Friday.
The building, which was empty, had been used by Occupy Cardiff for nearly two weeks until their eviction on Friday afternoon. They were planning to turn it into a “multi-media headquarters” to aid their campaign.
The eviction took place peacefully after police offers and security staff delivered the notice around 3pm. There were no arrests. A spokeswoman for Cardiff police said, “It was very quiet and they left of their own accord. It was all very straightforward.”
While protesters said their initial entry to the building was legal, WRU denied this.
The anti-capitalist protest continues outside Transport House where tents are pitched.
