This year marks 50 years of the James Bond film franchise and one actor appeared in more instalments of the spy series than any other, Desmond Llewelyn.
Although known to most people as “Q” the gadget man with his polished English accent; Llewelyn was born in Newport and remained a proud Welshman until his death in 1999.
Born to colliery owner Ivor and his wife Mia in 1914, Llewelyn grew up at Blaen-y-Pant House, Newport. The house, now a residential home, has been extended and modernised, however, some original features remain.
Wendy Evans, a care assistant, remembers the house when she first started work there 17 years ago. She said that there were wonderful artworks and beautiful period features in what was once Llewelyn’s nursery room.
