The youth of Wales are suffering some of the worst unemployment in recent years

A recent report has revealed that Welsh shoppers spend the most at Christmas out of everyone in the UK, revealing an apparent improvement in disposable income across Wales.

Despite this financial optimism, however, the youth of Wales are still suffering heavily from issues of unemployment. In September figures showed that 4,700 sixteen to twenty four year olds were on the dole, the most since 1997, which isn’t in keeping with the supposed confidence in disposable income.

Sam Elizabeth from CareerWales says, “Through the Jobs Growth Wales scheme, young people can get jobs in various industries from admin to catering. There are currently 325 vacancies.”

With the numerous alternative ways to spend the holidays, for the Welsh youth, a cheaper Christmas is on the cards.
