We asked the people of Cardiff for their views on Wales’s mental health services.

Last week the mental health services came under scrutiny in England after an investigation by Community Care magazine and the BBC revealed that more than 1,500 beds have been closed in recent years. The news has prompted many to question Wales’s mental health services.

In light of the investigation, the chief executive of mental health charity Hafal, wrote on his blog that the news doesn’t suggest that Wales’s services are superior to England.

Ruth Coombs, Mind Cymru, said, “We have different policies and legislature regarding treatment in Wales, however people are concerned about the relocation of mental health services, under the new health board consultation, as they will have to travel further to seek help when needed.”

We asked the people of Cardiff their views.
