One of the world’s largest global art prizes Artes Mundi returns to Cardiff as the shortlist of artists is announced in the lead up to the new exhibition.
The prize is unique as it encourages artists to look at the position of the artist in society and how they can evoke social change through their work. The director of Artes Mundi, Karen Mackinnon describes how, “Artes Mundi 6 brings a world-class shortlist of artists to Wales and the wider British public.”
The nine shortlisted artists are all in the running for the lucrative prize of £40,000, with the winner being announced next year. The shortlist features mixed media artists who chose to respond to challenging themes such as war and immigration.
