Beacons town to host stargazers

The town of Talybont-on-Usk will be plunged into darkness later this month as part of the annual stargazing festival.

The council has granted permission for all street lighting to be switched off for one night. The festival will feature a range of activities, including night sky photography.

Talybont-on-Usk is located in the Brecon Beacons, which in 2013 was granted dark sky status for the outstanding clarity of its night sky.

Festival co-organiser and landlady Anna Bell told us the event carried a broader message for a world where cities are lit up round the clock.

She said, “It shows that you don’t really need lights on at night. You can come outside with your torch, and as long as your safe, it can have an amazing effect.”
