Plans for the development of a skating ground on the site of Penarth’s Paget Terrace play park have ground to a halt following opposition from residents.
The nursery skate park was proposed as part of major public space developments in Penarth; but a public meeting on November 11 sparked friction between local councillors and residents, as people raised concerns over noise levels and suggested the park might encourage anti-social behaviour among local teenagers.
“My mistake was calling it a skate park,” said Penarth Councillor Gwyn Roberts, “when it’s really quite a modest scooter area. At the end of the day this is a child’s play facility and now it looks in jeopardy because of the amount of opposition.”
In the wake of this deadlock, Cllr Roberts is uncertain how the future of the play park will develop.
