The average rent paid by private tenants in Wales went down significantly over the last year, a new study suggests.
According to a joint research by letting agents Reeds Rains and Your Move, rents dropped 5.4% in the space of twelve months.
England shows an opposite trend. Rents spiked 6.3% across England and Wales combined, with a record 11.6% annual increase in London alone.
Housing charity Shelter Cymru’s campaign officer Llion Bevan confirmed that private rents levelled out in Cardiff in recent years.
“However, the problem isn’t that rents are rising, but that they are already high, and this is a long term problem,” he said.
In light of this, we took to the streets to gauge public opinion on the question of costs of rents in Cardiff.
