Three Sustainable Food Cities’ members have been nominated for the Sustain Wales Awards.

Food Cardiff’s pilot, held in the summer, provided meals, sport and learning to children in Cardiff’s deprived areas, such as Ely. Katie Palmer, Sustainable Food Cities coordinator said, the nomination highlighted how working in partnership across the city maximised the children’s wellbeing.

Riverside Community Markets Association (RCMA), which runs the city’s farmers’ markets, and FareShare Cymru – focusing on food waste reduction – are the other nominees.

Gareth Simpson, RCMA’s development manager stated, the awards benefited the producers because if they won, “it raises the profile of the market and more people will visit”.

“FareShare Cymru helps to feed thousands of people every week,” said Sarah Germain, “whilst decreasing food wastage.” By recognising the initiatives, these awards honoured all those involved.
