A wide range of artistic expression will be celebrated this month as the theme ‘communication’ is explored at the Welsh Capital’s biennial festival of international contemporary arts

The official launch of the Cardiff Contemporary Visual Arts Festival takes place on 21 October and will dig in to the theme of communication with artist commissions to ensure there will never be a dull moment for guests. Residences, open studios, talks, events, interventions, screenings and exhibitions will also take place where artists will communicate ideas globally as well as through space and time.

Although most events will be held at The Angel Hotel, other venues across Cardiff will be featured including artist led organisation g39. Launching the festival, they will be exhibiting part of the unique Artangel Collection in Wales for the first time by featuring Mike Kelley’s film of Mobile Homestead. Chris Brown, co-director of g39 explained, “We have had quite a bit of involvement with the festival and put on an exhibition programme that will form part of it.”

Cardiff Contemporary has been developed in partnership with Cardiff’s visual art, design and architecture communities and is funded by Arts Council Wales and Cardiff Council. The Council continues to develop international and local partnerships to encourage high profile visual arts activity and further develop cultural tourism. Cardiff City Council Leader, Cllr Phil Bale has commented, “We are hoping that the artists featured in this year’s festival inspire the city and world with the ideas that they are presenting in Cardiff.”
