Cardiff circus No Fit State host a range of alternative exercises classes to get fit
If you’re looking for a quirky way to exercise, No Fit State’s circus workshops are the perfect way to shape up this winter.
The circus company told alt.cardiff that the best class to start toning up with is Acrobatics, as this is open to all abilities and includes lessons from a high-performance trampolinist on how to tumble, trampoline and how to perfect pyramids and handstands.
The welcoming familial atmosphere of all 16 classes applies to novices, the experienced and even those who simply wish to improve their stage persona.
Catrin Chandler,19, from Newport is in the Youth Circus and has been a professional circus gymnast with No Fit State for six years, and is now taking Welsh talent to Australia in a circus internship this January.
“It’s not just a place of exercise,” said Catrin, “but people make so many memories there. It’s amazing how many close bonds we all have as a circus family.”Catrin’s favourite class is the Aerial class where she develops triple trapeze skills. The fitness fanatic said this is the most physically beneficial class. “The classes are great exercise,” she added, “But as you have so much fun it’s a different satisfaction from doing a three- hour session at the gym.”
For juggling and tightwire enthusiasts, the Circus Mish Mash class sounds like the perfect activity. If, however, you’d like to improve self-confidence and stage presence, Creative Circus is the best class.Program Administrator John Hosken praised the social, less competitive nature of the classes. “The Acrobatics class in particular is a great starting point,” he said.
He added that anyone is welcome to turn up as there is no intimidating level structure in this Wednesday evening session.
“We use expression and fun,” he said, adding, “We play around and unlike gymnastics, the only competition is against yourself.”
