The pantomime of Aladdin at the New Theatre will begin in December and accessible performances will feature in the month-long run.

Throughout the festive season, the theatre will host special performances to make the quintessentially British festive favourite accessible to all.

The four accessible performances on offer will feature audio description or British Sign Language, as well as a captioned performance and a relaxed performance being available.

As a deaf person…it means I am able to follow and it can be enjoyable

SAFYAN IQBAL

Safyan Iqbal is deaf and said that performances like these would benefit him. “As a deaf person, I always find it hard to understand people when the topic isn’t mentioned or things are made too complicated. So a captioned performance or one with a BSL interpreter would be brilliant. It means I am able to follow and it can be enjoyable” he said.

An all-star cast, including TV legend Paul Chuckle, singer Gareth Gates, and former Welsh rugby captain Gareth Thomas, will perform this pantomime to audiences in Cardiff throughout December and into the new year. These accessible performances are to ensure no-one misses out on the festive musical magic.

This pantomime was intended to be played to audiences during the Christmas period of 2020, but Covid-19 restrictions at the time meant the show could not take place.

This year, though, the show will go on. This British festive tradition is set to begin in Cardiff soon, even with the introduction of the need for an NHS COVID Pass to be presented at theatres and other venues in Wales. The New Theatre has announced their shows can go ahead and the Covid-19 precautionary measures they have put in place.

Aladdin opens at the New Theatre in Cardiff on Saturday 4 December with a matinee performance. Tickets are now available to book online and at the box office.
