The Coal Exchange Hotel is hosting an enchanting event for fans, just in time for the 20th anniversary reunion of the beloved franchise
Dust off your robes and take a trip down memory lane this weekend as the historic Coal Exchange Hotel is hosting a Harry Potter themed afternoon tea.
The event on Sunday 12 December is aptly titled the Wizards and Witches Afternoon Tea and starts at 12:30pm and runs until 4pm in the hotel’s own Great Hall, based in the city’s Mount Stuart Square.
After a few glasses of wine, I asked, why isn’t anyone doing [a Harry Potter] event in Cardiff?
Ieuan Davies
Social media manager for the hotel Ieuan Davies was inspired to host the event while bingeing the eight-movie marathon. He said, “After a few glasses of wine, I asked, why isn’t anyone doing an event in Cardiff? I went to my manager who agreed and from then on it grew into something big.”
The afternoon tea is a chance for Potterheads to revel in the Potterverse once more, as fans look forward to new content from the beloved franchise dropping on 1 January, 2022. Their childhood favourites will be reuniting on screen in a special reunion show for HBO Max called Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. All eight films will also be available to stream.
The specially themed afternoon tea is the third edition of the hotel’s event and the setting will be transformed into Hogwarts’ Great Hall. Expect to be greeted by the most-loved characters on arrival, and consume themed cocktails, sand-witches, and sweets on par with Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans.
Josh Andrews and Kally Loren from Capital FM will also be hosting an interactive quiz with mystery prizes up for grabs.
Ieuan said approximately 250 people will be in attendance but in line with Covid-19 safety guidelines the staff will be wearing face masks and will take lateral flow tests prior to the event to ensure everyone’s safety.
Tickets cost £32.50 for adults and £17.50 for children. More information about the event can be found here. Guests are highly encouraged to sport their house colours.
Have a pint or two of Butterbeer but remember not to kiss any dementors!
