A councillor has defended the closure of Ely library despite a public petition against it.
Russell Goodway said that it is important to emphasise that the library is simply transferring to another location.
“This is not the first time that the library in Ely has been moved from one location to another. It is important that we focus on facilities and services and not on buildings,” he said.
Cardiff Council plan to close the current library building on Grand Avenue later this year and move the facilities to the Jasmine Enterprise Centre on Cowbridge Road.
Councillor Susan Goddard comments: “The closing of the library will be a good thing as it will be open more hours of the day. I can only see positives for the community.”
