The New Theatre has provided a foot in the stage door for many people through its volunteer programme.
Austerity measures saw the theatre’s £800,000 a year subsidy from Cardiff Council quelled in 2014.
But, its volunteers ensured that this devastating blow did not dim the spotlight of this cultural hub.
The programme has proved to benefit both unpaid staff and the theatre.
Volunteers are trained in customer service, and are also able to immerse themselves in a world of theatre.
Andrew Lovell, front of house manager, explained how the scheme is providing opportunities for the unemployed and “recent school leavers looking for their first taste of the working world.”
With the help of an ensemble cast, the New Theatre’s show will go on.
