Winter vegan festival aims to help the animals by teaching Cardiff how to eat vegan and giving funds raised to dog charity
Vegans can join in with winter festivities this year with a first-time festival at City Hall. Welsh Vegan WinterFest is not-for-profit event where the funds raised will go to Protect a Pup.
According to Protect a Pup, 3,463 homeless dogs were killed by local authorities last year.
They will use the money raised to provide free neuters, spays, microchipping and advice — anything to make sure dogs have the best chance at finding a home.
From 10:30am to 4pm on Sunday 9 December, you can buy cruelty-free Christmas gifts and plant based street food.
There will also be information and advice on how to go vegan for good.
Claire Morley organised the event as a way of combining her two areas of animal activism.
She runs Vegan Effect and is involved with Protect a Pup as she believes that animals are friends and not food.
Claire said: “The event is jam packed full of everything you need for an ethical Christmas. Everyone is welcome to come and explore the fantastic variety the vegan lifestyle has to offer.”
She is keen for more people to embrace the vegan lifestyle, and hopes that this event will encourage Cardiff to do so.
She added: “I absolutely love the festive period and as a passionate vegan I’m more than excited for the first of many Welsh Vegan WinterFests to come!”
Eat Out Vegan Wales are an organisation who provide a guide to places where vegans can eat out in Wales. They will be having a stall at the event.
Tim Vodden from Eat Out Vegan Wales said: “It is very encouraging that pop-up vegan events are happening so frequently in the Cardiff area these days.
“It is helping to encourage people to lead a cruelty free and environmentally friendly lifestyle. Even better if it is helping stray animals as well.”
