A crowdfunding campaign has been set up to help fund the restoration of the Cathays cemetery chapels – forty years after they held their last funeral service.
Cardiff City Council’s Bereavement Services are asking for donations to help fund the necessary work to the chapels. They hope to restore the chapels into venues where funeral services, weddings and other special events can be held.
The Friends of Cathays Cemetery, a charity which has campaigned for the restoration for nine years, has supported the council’s efforts to refurbish the chapel.
John Farnill, treasurer of the charity, said that, ‘When we first got involved the chapels were derelict and almost falling down.’
‘These past couple of years have seen great progress in the restoration.’
