Extinction Rebellion Cardiff will take an action at Cardiff Gate on Saturday to draw people’s attention to fossil fuel companies including Shell.
Extinction Rebellion Cardiff is planning to launch a protest this weekend against the impact brought by fossil fuel companies on human health and the environment, and mainly focus on Shell’s campaign.
Shell Energy says cleaner energy is important for the world today and for the generations that will inherit it from us, so they supply 100% renewable electricity now.
Shell says energy systems are changing. This change is driven by growing energy demand and an urgent need to curb CO2 emissions. And they are trying to make an important contribution to reduce the emissions.
Extinction Rebellion held a meeting on Tuesday to decide their action plan.
Members sat together to discuss the activity and painted the banner or board to create some beautiful images to help raise attention to the climate crisis.
David Kilner, one of the coordinators of Extinction Rebellion Cardiff, says Shell is still investing heavy money on fossil fuel industry which poses a great danger to climate change.
“Shell chose oil because they want to make more money but promoting how green it is. So we are here hearing everyone’s voices and deciding how to organize the action on Saturday to engage more people tackling the fossil fuel problem.”
Many Cardiff residents attended the meeting, because they are concerned the risks of continued funding of carbon-intensive industries.
According to the Guardian, climate change “reflects a global market failure in the sense that producers and consumers of CO2 emissions do not pay for the climate damage that results.”
Siriol McAvoy as the resident in Cardiff says she feels more hopeful and optimistic for joining the discussion. But it is still challenging to engage to the public and have one-to-one conversation directly on Saturday.
After the discussion, the Extinction Rebellion Cardiff decided to hand out the leaflets and flowers, and speak to the public how the fossil fuel industry is affecting the global climate.
The action will be hold at Cardiff Gate at 2 pm on Saturday.
