Cardiff parkrun enjoys a clear road ahead

Council concerns have failed to stop the longstanding local free run

A POPULAR local running event is looking comfortable on its feet again after council health and safety concerns had threatened to put a stop to it last month.

Cardiff parkrun, a weekly 5km event held in Bute Park and now in its fourth year, was suspended in September by the city council on health and safety grounds. However the run is back on its original route and just as popular as ever.

“It is a great relief to have the event back up and running,” said Phil Cook, event director for Cardiff parkrun. “To see people coming back every week gives a feeling of satisfaction.

“We are trying to work with the council to meet their requests,” he added.

The Cardiff event is one of only two parkruns in Wales.
