Age Cymru launch campaign to protect the elderly from abuse

The Rule out Abuse campaign calls for the introduction of a new law which will strengthen the process of adult protection. Their charter was launched 14 November 2011 and will run into the new year.

Research by Age Cymru found elder abuse in Wales is more widespread than anywhere else in the UK. Their charter wants the Welsh Government to legally prioritise the safety of adults at risk from abuse.

Campaigns Co-ordinator Rhea Stevens said the timely campaign has been launched before the introduction of The Social Services (Wales) Bill [Hyperlink] which will attempt to unify a legal framework for social care.

“The charter gathers campaign support,” said Rhea, “After that we’d like people to go out and share the message and encourage other people to sign.”
