Lufthansa is set to run a new service between Cardiff and Dusseldorf. The German airline currently runs a number of services between major German and UK cities, with the commencement of a new Dusseldorf service in May 2013.
The Welsh Government and Visit Wales is hoping that flights to the populous Dusseldorf area in the west of Germany will see a boost in tourism to Wales.
Steve Hodgetts, Business Development and Commercial Director at Cardiff Airport, welcomed the development saying that “this has been a target market for Visit Wales for some time”.
First minister of Wales Carwyn Jones recently said that the airport was due for a “rebrand and refresh”, announcing that the terminal would be revamped. The refurbishment plans are due to be complete by Easter 2013.
