Exchange in Roath has returned this week at The Gate Arts Centre.

The giant swap shop allows people to donate unwanted items until Friday 16th October.

They can then collect tokens and swap them for other donations this Saturday.

The yarn-bombed shipping container at The Gate Arts Centre was made by Nelly’s Treasures.

Trade School Cardiff and Printhaus are also holding up-cycling workshops, demonstrating how to revamp old clothes and creatively repair unwanted objects.

Swap shop volunteer, Jonathan Mcloughlin said: “It’s all about avoiding landfills by encouraging people to swap their items. It’s a way of giving old items a new lease of life.”

The exchange tokens used in the event are recycled train tickets.

Last year saw over 1.5 tonnes of clothes, books, electronics, furniture and toys donated.

“People drop off amazing things”, said volunteer, Hannah Garcia. “Someone brought a treadmill last year. It was snapped up straight away!”
