The world-renowned record store, Spillers Records, will host a special live appearance for the upcoming band, Audiobooks
Spillers Records, one of the oldest record stores in the world, will be hosting a live appearance for the London-based duo, Audiobooks.
Spillers, located in Morgan Arcade, will present the synth-pop band when they perform some of their music live in store to promote of the band’s debut album, Now! (in a minute), out 2 November.
“We’ve been doing in-stores and signings for decades and decades!”, said co-owner Ashli Todd. “We had Shirley Bassey here for a signing in 1957, The Stranglers in 1979 and slightly more recently acts like Daughter, Public Service Broadcasting, Sleaford Mods, The Lovely Eggs, The Joy Formidable and Idles have all played here.”
Like any event, in-store appearances take a lot of hard work and preparation to make sure everything goes according to plan. “We’re a small space and not a purpose-built for live music so it’s all hands on decks to turn the shop round to be in-store ready.” Ashli continues. “There’s no guarantee people will turn up to watch. From an attendee perspective, an instore is a really interesting environment to see a band in as it’s usually more stripped down than a gig setting and intimacy of the space can’t be denied!”
Spillers will also be selling an exclusive CD that will only be sold in the record store. volcano fuzz disco mix has been created by audiobooks band member, David Wrench, originally from North Wales. “Half of my mixing is done by seeing it and sorting it out into a nice pattern”, he said in an interview with Loud and Quiet.
“We certainly have a fair few regulars who seem to find value in what we do and supporting what we do, for which we’re eternally grateful for.” adds Ashli.“You just don’t know who you could discover if you venture to one of these things!”.
