Cardiff based independent music venue Acapela studio in Pentyrch is giving local artists a platform this festive period, hosting a variety of performers for ‘12 nights of Christmas’, ensuring there is “Something for everyone.” This includes a variety of acts, from local rising stars to Australian guitarist Daniel Champagne.
With Christmas fast approaching there are many seasonal, musical events being hosted in Cardiff, from carol services to a drag ABBA Christmas brunch.
One of the artists performing her first headline show at Acapela Studio this Christmas is Molly Roberts, a proud Welsh singer-songwriter, currently featured on BBC Radio Wales’ A-List.
“Living in Wales has hugely influenced my music” says Roberts. “Music is a huge part of Welsh culture” the 22-year-old added.
Wales is known as the Land of Song with Cardiff becoming the UK’s first ‘Music City’ in 2017.
The musician highlighted the importance of supporting emerging Welsh talent, suggesting venues give more of the slots for supporting acts to unsigned, emerging artists. She thinks this would be great to generate exposure and public awareness of new artists.
“It’s so important that Welsh talent is recognised” Roberts said. Having been inspired by many other Welsh performers such as Duffy and Shirley Bassey, it is important that the culture is represented to inspire the next generation of Welsh musicians.
Paul James, the programme director at Acapela Studio stated they are “Extremely pleased to help Molly” on her musical journey. He added the importance of today’s Welsh musicians playing a stronger part in the wider world music scene.
