Cardiff University is holding a talk by a distinguished expert to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
The seminar is led by Dr Mara Oliva from Reading University and titled Hiroshima, 70 Years on. It takes place on November 12 at the School of Modern Languages
According to Mara, the political and cultural Cold War have been heavily researched, while the nuclear Cold War is still relatively unexplored. Mara will discuss nuclear policy and nuclear weapons and what they mean today. She will also contextualize the next talk on the agenda, which will be on the survivors.
The current War on Terror raises many anxieties, but “Nuclear weapons are not the future”, she says: “We have many more problems to face, such as climate change and famine.”
