After BBC documented Ieuan and Jez’s crusade to the Pizza World Championships earlier this year, they have since returned to Cardiff Market and have continued cooking up a storm
Earlier this year, Ieuan Harry and Jez Phillips starred in the BBC documentary, ‘Pizza Boys’ which showcased their journey to the Pizza World championships in Parma, Italy. They strived for world glory in competition with other elite chefs all to be crowned the best pizza makers in the world.
Back in Cardiff
Fast forward to the end of 2021 and Ieuan and Jez are back in action at their base in Cardiff Market. They run Ffwrnes, a pizza stall in the Welsh capital’s historic Cardiff market. They were both delighted with the response to the documentary and loved hearing feedback on it from customers.
They are humbled by how the documentary was received and suggest it may have grown their reputation as they are often told by customers how far they have come just to visit Ffwrnes and sample their world-class pizza.
“We are extremely humbled by their comments and by how far some have travelled to come and try our pizzas,” They said.
Desire to compete again?
They also hinted at a potential desire to enter the world championships for a second time. They said they had planned on entering in 2020 but their plans were thwarted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We love a challenge so who knows what will crop up in the future?” They said.
Plans for Christmas
The boys are marking the Christmas period by adding a festive themed Pizza to their menu, the ‘Sion Corn’. “It has got a tomato base, mozzarella, blue cheese, pancetta, sprouts, pecorino snow and cranberry sauce,” they said.
As well as Ffwrnes, Ieuan and Harry also run West Pizza, located in Kongs, Cardiff. They have both loved having another project on the go and “can’t wait to develop it further.”
Their long-term plans extend to branching out from just Ffwrnes in Cardiff Market and opening their own pizzeria and this has always been their dream. This will “hopefully be part of the plan for the new year,” they said.
