A previously disused yard, in the heart of Canton, has opened its doors as an independent street food venue in the midst of a pandemic.
The Corporation Yard, located behind The Corporation pub on Cowbridge Road East, was previously a disused yard until the owner saw its potential as a social hub to support South Wales’ independent businesses.
Teaming up with some of Cardiff’s best upcoming street food traders and restaurants, the Corporation Yard opened in August and serves global cuisines that can please even the fussiest of eaters.
Through the florescent tunnel of light, you’ll find a burst of colour under a marquee at the centre of the yard. Surrounding the marquee are five of South Wales’ best street food traders that change regularly.
The current traders include the highly acclaimed Cardiff restaurant, The Potted Pig, who launched their first pop-up stall at the Corporation Yard last week. The four other traders who are confirmed until New Years Eve are: That Street Food Van; Taste of Persia; Wing Stack; and Pwdin.
The traders also offer a variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Provided by Cardiff’s own Bub’s Bar, the venue also has a licensed bar, serving anything from craft beers to cocktails.
The Corporation Yard is ran Covid aware, offering socially distanced seating for up to 140 people from 4pm until 10pm every Thursday to Sunday, following the Welsh Government’s Covid guidelines. The venue also operates in a one-way system and is table service by ordering via the new Cardiff-based app, Yoello.
On the weekends, from 10am until 3pm, the yard is transformed into a brand new independent market event, Indie Superstore. Around 15 market stalls are open every weekend, offering a selection of goods ranging from old vinyl records to vintage clothing and plants.
Whatever the event, the Corporation Yard can offer your social life a sense of normality during these unusual times and is definitely worth a visit. Tables can be booked here.
