Cardiff’s annual film festival took place last weekend. Is this an indicator of Cardiff’s growing status as a centre of diversity?
The Cardiff International Film Festival 2018, in its second year of existence, ran from the 19th to the 21st September. It is a symbol of Cardiff’s growing status as a hub of internationalism and filmmaking. The event was hosted at the historic Pierhead building at Cardiff Bay.
The festival consisted of a sequence of short films screenings, free for the public to attend. There was a great variety of styles and artistic sensibilities, and while most of the pieces seemed to be in live action, there were some animated films as well. The public was free to drift in and out of the screening room at their own convenience.
The screening room“What’s happening is the film industry in Cardiff and Wales is booming now. We want for the rest of the world to notice us so we’ve opened up the Cardiff International Film Festival to celebrate diversity,” says Ewa Ladkowska, an event volunteer.
