Would you like to be a part of a give and take of the Cathays community?
Come check out the Cardiff community fridge, the first of its kind in the city and feel free to donate, swap or collect some food!
Cardiff’s First has brought to us the very first community fridge in the city and it is open for everyone to donate, swap, or take food. Running successfully since April 2018, The Community Fridge is located in the courtyard of the Cathays Community Centre.
The Community Fridge is a part of a bigger project of waste reduction and management awareness and is all for making people realise how valuable food is wasted in Cardiff. Its a great way to make people realise the true value of the food we consume.
It’s also a really innovative chance for the people to give back to their community.
“I have definitely seen an increase in people who use the fridge, over the summer. It really seems like they have found us” says Inge-Helene Pello, a volunteer at the Community Centre. The whole program is fueled by wonderful volunteers and local businesses like Tesco who also donate food to the fridge.
Although many are a part of this initiative, more participation is constantly encouraged by the community centre. “It’s very interesting because Cathays is mainly a student area, but we don’t get a lot of students coming here and we would like to get more students involved as many people still don’t know about this yet” Helene added.
