People in the drinks industry makes noise at second protest

Hundreds gathered on London’s Parliament Square to protest the new tier restriction

Hundreds gathered on London’s Parliament Square on 7 December to support the hospitality industry through a second protest.

The organizer, Rachel Harty, who is from Cardiff said that the people in the second protest were mainly from the drink industry and with pans and cocktail shakers to make noise instead of chef whites worn in the last protest.

Rachel Harty said: “Lots of passion display, we have a couple of a bunch of people here try to show the government how they feel about the restriction on hospitality and lack of financial support.

“As I expected, people showed up from the drinking industry. They are publicans and bar attendants here to make themselves to be heard”.

Around 200 people from the hospitality industry gathered around following the social distance rules and wearing mask acted with anger and disappointment at the government’s announcement of new tier restrictions.

Ms. Farau London, Mayor of London 2021 Independent Candidate, was in the campaign to support the hospitality and nightlife industry.

“Because of the pandemic, they have suffered a great deal. The Government has not done enough for hospitality, they need to seek more grants and freeze the rents.

“Lots of pubs are already closed because of not having a kitchen to serve substantial meals, that’s unfair to them,” Farau said.

Emma Shepherd, a pub owner in Sheffield, said that she couldn’t make it to the campaign because of the restriction but if she can, she will be there.

She added:“We are using our retirement savings, it’s ok to do this only for a couple of months.”

“It doesn’t make any sense when you see things going on in all the big shopping centers across the country on the weekend that Christmas shoppers are not social distancing, no track&trace, hardly wearing a mask.

“When you’re coming through my pubs you have to be wearing masks, you set track&trace, you go to the toilet with your mask on, even when you leave.”
