Hundreds of Welsh Santas run to fund defibrillators and CPR training.
Over 400 Cardiff residents dressed as Santas ran through Cardiff Bay last weekend to raise funds for defibrillators and CPR training.
According to the British Heart Foundation, each year, 9,000 people in Wales die from cardiovascular diseases, and 375,000 live with them. The Santa Dash raises awareness and provides resources to address these issues.
Chief Executive of Calon Hearts Sharon Owen said that: “Over the past 13 years, Calon Hearts has saved 100,558 lives and placed more than 30,000 defibrillators across Wales. Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our participants.”
Several participants hold personal significance for the event. Sarah Phillips, who has joined the Santa Dash three times, said, “This event is close to my heart because my father benefited from a defibrillator. Running here reminds me of how vital Calon Hearts’ work is.”
The Rock Choir, led by Paul Mansford, performed to engage attendees and encourage participation. “Music connects people to meaningful causes,” Mansford said.
The Santa Dash attaches families, friends, and individuals in Cardiff Bay, raising funds for heart health programs and promoting life-saving awareness across Wales.
“It’s incredible to see so many people supporting such a vital cause, spreading awareness, and making a tangible impact,” said organizer Jayne Cowan. “All funds raised from this Santa Dash event will be used for defibrillator installations and CPR training, particularly in underserved areas of Wales.”
The organizers thanked all residents and volunteers for supporting this year’s Santa Dash. “Every contribution makes a difference,” said Cowan. Visit Calon Hearts’ website for future events.
