Polish singers in Cardiff have launched a new choir that aims to tackle problems around mental health.

The Ptasie Radio Cymru choir has set out to create a ‘slice of Poland in Cardiff’, according to its organiser Natalia Gajowniczek.

“For us, these meetings are essential for our mental health,” said Natalia. “Despite the stress of everyday life, when we meet and make music, it helps us forget everything and feel creative.”

The performance featured a diverse selection of songs, including modern jazz pieces, traditional arrangements, and iconic Polish war songs, showcasing a broad musical spectrum that appeals to a variety of tastes.

Ptasie Radio Cymru, founded in 2023, is more than just a singing group. It’s a community where diversity and shared creativity take centre stage. Cardiff’s vibrant Polish community has found its voice through Ptasie Radio Cymru.

Their are preparing an upcoming concert of Agnieszka Osiecka’s works in February 2025. Osiecka, one of Poland’s most celebrated cultural figures, is known by her poetic lyrics, deep emotional resonance and ability to capture the spirit of Poland.

The concert will include translations of her lyrics, making it accessible to English-speaking audiences and fostering a cultural exchange through music. They hope to bridge the gap between Polish and English-speaking audiences by music.
