Ptasie Radio Cymru is a unique Cardiff choir that aims to improve mental health through a celebration of Polish culture.
Polish singers in Cardiff have launched a new choir that aims to tackle problems around mental health.
The Ptasie Radio Cymru choir has set out to create a ‘slice of Poland in Cardiff’, according to its organiser Natalia Gajowniczek.
“We see ourselves as a flock of unique birds,” said Natalia Gajowniczek. “Each member has their own style, but together, we create something beautiful.
“For us, these meetings are essential for our mental health,” said Natalia. “Despite the stress of everyday life, when we meet and make music, it helps us forget everything and feel creative.”
This week saw the choir’s first rehearsal at the South Riverside Development Community Centre and Natalia says that it is now open to everyone. “We welcome anyone who wants to join us on this journey, whether they are Polish or simply interested in learning about our culture,” she said.
The performance featured a diverse selection of songs, including modern jazz pieces, traditional arrangements, and iconic Polish war songs, showcasing a broad musical spectrum that appeals to a variety of tastes.
Ptasie Radio Cymru, founded in 2023, is more than just a singing group—it’s a community where diversity and shared creativity take centre stage. Cardiff’s vibrant Polish community has found its voice through Ptasie Radio Cymru.
The group is now gearing up for a follow-up concert in February 2025 in Cardiff, featuring more of Osiecka’s timeless classics. “It’s a community where we heal, share, and discover ourselves through the creative process.” Natalia emphasized.
