George North is expected to move to the Centre position ahead of the crunch game against France following a growing Welsh injury crisis.
The reshuffle comes after Centre Scott Williams suffered a shoulder injury during the 26-3 loss to Ireland in the second championship game, which has ruled him out of Friday’s crunch clash.
Jonathan Davies adds to Warren Gatland’s nightmare after failing to recover from a pectoral injury sustained earlier in the campaign.
Another Centre, Ashley Beck, has also been ruled out with a shoulder problem.
This leaves Gatland having to improvise in midfield with the possibility of pairing George North with Jamie Roberts in what could be a formidable anchor in the centre of the field.
With the official team news to be announced tomorrow at 11am (Wednesday) North is widely expected to take the Centre position although the return of James Hook is not a remote possibility.
Some good news for Gatland comes from the influential Perpignan lock Luke Charteris’ return to fitness following a spell on the sidelines.
Reports in France have also suggested that key French centre Mathieu Bastareaud could be out injured after injuring his shoulder in the Toulon win over Castres at the weekend.
Wales are under pressure to win at the Millennium Stadium knowing that a loss will effectively end their hopes of an unprecedented third successive championship win.
