Two leading bodies of architects have announced their support of efforts to list BBC Wales’ headquarters in Llandaff.
The Royal Society of Architects in Wales and the Twentieth Century Society said last week they are backing calls for Cadw, the Welsh Government’s heritage advisors, to list the building.
Dan Benham, President of the RSAW, said: “We are keen to ensure that key post war buildings such as the BBC Wales site at Llandaff are preserved.
“This building is a key example of design from its time. RSAW does not want to see buildings of this significance being lost to future generations.”
Last week the BBC’s financial plans for the £170million site was put under threat after it was revealed Cadw is considering to list the building.
The building was designed by prominent Welsh architect Dale Owen who also headed the grade II listed National Museum Wales at St Fagans.
Henrietta Billings, Senior Conservation Adviser at the Twentieth Century Society, said: “The BBC building is one of Wales’ most outstanding and important Modernist buildings.
“We believe this iconic set of buildings should be listed and celebrated as a key part of Wales’ cultural and architectural heritage.”
