A Welsh Government initiative will be offering residents, community groups and organisations in Cardiff next week the opportunity to adopt a planter.
Cynefin Cardiff, a project initiated by Severn Wye energy agency which aims to bring together communities and improve their quality of life, will offer it’s target areas, Adamsdown, Cathays and Plasnewydd, three relatively large planters, in which they can grow their own produce.
Ownership over the planters, where they will go and what will be grown inside them will be discussed at Cyenfin Cardiff’s meeting next week.
Luke Rice, 29, Cynefin Place Coordinator, hosts the meetings.
He said: “Residents, community groups and businesses will be given the opportunity to grow their own produce in one of these planters worth a couple hundred pounds each.
“They will be held responsible for maintenance and what grows inside. If they are used appropriately there is a possibility for more planters to be provided to the areas.”
Cynefin Cardiff was started in April last year and since then has been carrying out research to find out more about the makeup of the areas and what help residents would like to see in their communities.
The last event, held on February 6, discussed plans for a Cranbrook Street Mural to cover the graffiti which currently runs along the length of Cranbrook Street.

Mr Rice said: “Projects like these allow communities to work together and improve their local areas. They also allow people to have a go at something they might not have necessarily been able to do without the help of this organisation.
“There are significant social benefits, as well as environmental and economical.
“As a result people will feel better about the place where they live.”
As well as Adamsdown, Cathays and Plasnewydd being covered in Cardiff, Cyenfin also covers other areas of Wales such as Maindee and Newport, Merthyr Tydfil, and Llanelli and Carmarthenshire.
The meeting will be held on Thursday 20 March at 5.30pm and will be held at the Gate Arts Centre, Roath.
