CROWDS at Sunday’s Barry Remembrance day parade were treated with a special drive-by of classic scooters.
Scooterists from the Barry and District Scooter Club joined the back of the parade and parked next to the Barry cenotaph for the memorial service.
Each scooter was decorated with a large poppy and the club’s acting servicemen were invited to lay a wreath.
The club chairman, Paul Bridges described the event as “one of the proudest moments of my life”.
Barry and District Scooter club has 22 members, two of whom are part of the Royal Naval Reserves. They formed two months ago and have raised over £500 for different local charities.
On Saturday 8 November, the club raised £355 in four hours outside Tesco in Barry for the Royal British Legion. Mr Bridges is “over the moon with the effort” and hopes the club will continue to raise money for charities in the future.
They will be holding a Christmas event in the Glenbrook Inn for the charity Scope on Saturday 5 December. This will raise money for two children from Gladstone Primary School who suffer with muscular dystrophy, one of whom needs an operation in America.
In light of this year’s success, the Barry and District Scooter club have been invited to join up with the motorcycle guards for the Barry Remembrance Day parade and service in 2016.
