CUSTOMERS will have to go further afield or use the Post Office when Barclays bank closes in Birchgrove today.
Mervyn Owen, Barclays community leader for South Wales, said the number of customers using Barclays’ Birchgrove branch had declined significantly and a large proportion of them regularly use different branches.
Mr Owen said: “The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.
“We must therefore evolve the shape and size of our branch network in response to changing customer behaviour.”
Staff in the Birchgrove branch have been given opportunities to work at other local branches.
Mr Owen said all customers were informed of their options well in advance of the closure, adhering to UK government protocol.
The bank is working with Birchgrove Post Office to offer some of the services customers will lose from the closure of the bank. Other customers are expected to move to branches in Whitchurch, Llanishen and Roath Park.
