HARPER Lee, the author of To Kill A Mockingbird, has died aged 69.
The news was confirmed by the mayor’s office in Monroeville, Alabama.
In 1960 Lee published To Kill A Mockingbird, which dealt with issues of rape and racial inequality and won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
This famous work has been part of the English and Welsh syllabus for years and has been studied by countless students across the country.
To Kill a Mockingbird, which has sold more than 30m copies world wide, was Lee’s only published book until Go Set a Watchman in July last year.
